I've Got Faith Of The Heart

This is my very first Enterprise rewatch post. I'm going to experiment with a few different styles of recapping. Today I'm going with a bare bones style with a minimum of caps and the notes I wrote during the episode. "Broken Bow, Part 1" is the episode of Enterprise that I've seen the most so I don't really have much to say about it.

My Notes of the Episode As It Progressed
-Young Jonathan Archer paints a model spaceship while talking to his dad about Zephram Cochrane, warp ships, and relations with the Vulcans.
-Broken Bow, OK thirty years later. Crashed ship in a corn field. Xindi chasing a Klingon into a silo. Farmer hears a ruckus, grabs his gun, shoots the Klingon after the Klingon explodes his silo with the Xindi still inside.
-Stupid Fucking Theme Song
-Archer and Trip are in a pod inspecting the exterior of NX-01 while she sits in Spacedock. Trip scratches the paint. Archer receives a message that Admiral Forrest wants him at Starfleet Medical.
-The Vulcans and some of the Starfleet Admiralty discuss what to do with the injured Klingon. Archer arrives. Bobby mispronounces Klingon. Archer is an ass, both about the Vulcans wanting to delay launch and Klingon culture. Archer needs to be called an idjit. T'Pol points out that Archer is volatile. His response is to threaten to hit her. You showed her. Archer offers to take the living Klingon to Qo'nos despite not having his crew ready.
-Reed and Mayweather discuss transporters, getting the ship battle ready, Klingons, and Mayweather's upbringing on cargo ships as they head to engineering. Trip drools over his engines like any good chief engineer. Reed introduces Mayweather and Trip.
-Sato is shown teaching a class some sort of language in Brazil. Archer convinces Sato to leave her classes early in order to work on the ship. A sampling of the Klingon language may or may not have been used to seduce her to the job.
-Archer and Trip discuss having a Vulcan science officer, the only way the Vulcans will let Enterprise go on their merry way into the galaxy. T'Pol arrives with her transfer orders. She does not approve of the smell of Porthos, as Vulcan females have a heightened sense of smell. Archer gives T'Pol a "Don't Spy, Dammit" lecture. T'Pol puts him in his place with clear, concise language.
-Launching of NX-01. Admiral Forrest blah blahs. As the senior crew boards the ship, video of Cochrane is shown where he speaks of 'strange new worlds,' 'new life and new civilizations,' and 'go[ing] boldly where no man has gone before.' Archer flashes back on his dad as the bridge crew prepare the ship to leave. Off she goes.
-Xindi Helix. One of the Xindi gets orders to stop the Klingon from a shadowy presence. Ooh, intrigue.
-Phlox and Archer discuss Phlox's time on Earth, his assortment of medical 'tools,' and his place in the Vulcan Medical Exchange. Phlox is Chief Medical Officer because most human doctors have never even heard of a Klingon before, much less no how to treat one.
-Trip finds Mayweather hanging out in 'the sweet spot,' an area where artificial gravity is a little wonky. Mayweather has been to a bunch of planets that Trip hasn't been to. All Trip cares about is that some alien women have three boobs. Classy.
-Archer, Trip, and T'Pol have dinner in the Captain's Mess. We are told that Vulcans are vegetarians and that they don't touch food with their hands. Also, another round of Humans vs Vulcans is undertaken with Archer and Trip trying to convince T'Pol that they are way cooler than she thinks. She doesn't really buy it.
-On the bridge, Mayweather announces they have achieved warp 4.3. Sato is a total wuss about the various little bumps of space travel. Archer receives word that the Klingon is waking up.
-In Sickbay, Sato attempts to have a conversation with the Klingon but he's kinda out of it, so nothing he says makes sense. The ship drops out of warp, main power goes down, and there is are intruders on the ship who can turn invisible. The delirious Klingon informs us they are Suliban before he is abducted by the intruders.
-Back on the bridge, Archer is cranky that they weren't able to detect the Suliban before they boarded the ship.
T'Pol tries to convince Archer to go back to Earth because he has failed at his mission. He takes exception with being made to look stupid, so he orders that their conversation continue in his ready room. The follow convo breaks down to Archer being xenophobic and T'Pol being condescending.
-Phlox performs an autopsy on the Suliban that was killed during the Klingon's abduction. He discovers that the Suliban have been genetically engineered in a bunch of interesting, useful to hiding ways.
-Trip and T'Pol work together to try to track down which way the Suliban went. Trip is hostile. T'Pol is condescending. I'm sensing a theme. Archer arrives so that T'Pol can report that there was a cloaked ship and Trip could track it if there sensors were more evolved. Sato managed to translate most of what the Klingon said. One of the words she couldn't translate happens to be the name of the planet/system the Klingon went to last before crashing on Earth.
-The Suliban interrogate the Klingon. In Klingon. With subtitles. I think it would be more interesting if we had no clue what they're saying.
-Enterprise arrives at Rigel 10. T'Pol briefs the crew on what to expect when they arrive on the surface, her main advice being shut up and try to blend in. Archer briefs them on what they will be asking the locals.
-Hijinks ensue. (Reed drools over alien chicks with long tongues while Mayweather tries to get them to move on. Trip feels the need to interfere in everything going on around him whether he understands it or not.) Turns out all the info they've been getting on where the Klingon headed off to is a TWAP. Surprise, surprise.
-To Be Continued... (dun dun DUNNN)

Enterprise on her way out of Spacedock. Hi, baby.

Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula). Doesn't matter how long he's been a Star Trek captain, I'll always see Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett. Sam was nicer and more fun than Archer, who I thought seemed like a xenophobic ass at the beginning of Enterprise. Hopefully, my impression of him will be different on this rewatch.
(Sidenote: I have an NX-01 hat. Don't hate.)

Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III (Connor Trinneer). Southern gentleman who vehemently disagrees with the Vulcan XO. Sounds familiar. I get the impression that either Archer or Trip is supposed to be the audience POV for the show.

Sub-Commander T'Pol (Jolene Blalock). So disdainful of the Human race. Wondering how the hell she ended up on this boat with those smelly people. I feel like she's my POV on the show.

Ensign Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery) and Lieutenant Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating). For this episode, both of these two were seen with someone else so I decided to just cap them together. I'll talk more on them in later episodes when they get more focus.

Ensign Hoshi Sato (Linda Park). I'm torn when it comes to Hoshi. She has the job I would most love to have on the ship. On the other hand, the writers set her up as such a weakling. It annoyed me when I originally watched, so I'm hoping I like her better this time.

Dr. Phlox (John Bilingsley). John Bilingsley is the actor I recognize most on this show after Scott Bakula. I've seen him sooooo many other places. His voice is so recognizable that the makeup and the cg doesn't matter.

Porthos! Most important member of the crew. Interesting fact: Enterprise takes place in 2151. Nu!Trek takes place in 2258. This makes me wonder if the Admiral Archer Scotty mentioned was the same Archer. Obviously it's not the same prize beagle. I'm pretty sure advances in medicine wouldn't be enough to get a dog to live for another hundred years.

Suprise Jim Beaver! I think the episode would have been vastly improved with him calling someone an idjit. Just saying.
